Atmospheric Pressure Plasma for Industry – Impressions from the 51st aka-dp Workshop

Under the guiding theme “Atmospheric pressure plasma for industry: economical – process stable – sustainable”, the 51st ak-adp workshop took place in Steinhagen (NRW) on 15 and 16 April 2026. The event is one of the established industry meetings in the field of atmospheric pressure plasma and regularly brings together users, system manufacturers and research institutions.
For relyon plasma, the workshop offered a well-founded platform to classify current industrial requirements for plasma technologies, new application trends and technological challenges in direct exchange with experts.

Professional exchange on all aspects of industrial plasma technology

The technical contributions and discussions were characterized by a high level of technical depth and a clear industry focus. The focus was on concrete questions from practice, including:

  • Cost-effectiveness of atmospheric pressure plasma processes
  • Process stability and reproducibility in series production
  • Sustainability and resource efficiency in surface treatment

The exchange between users, system manufacturers and research partners enabled a differentiated view of the current possibilities of industrial plasma treatment.

Relevance for industrial applications and series processes

The composition of the participants reflected the entire value chain of plasma technology in industry. Among other things, the following were discussed:

  • Requirements for robust plasma systems for continuous operation
  • Integration of plasma technology into existing production lines
  • Quality requirements and process monitoring in plasma applications

It is precisely these aspects that are crucial if atmospheric pressure plasma is to be used not only in the laboratory, but also reliably in industrial manufacturing processes.

Relevant Trends: Plasma as an Industrial Purification and Decontamination Process

During the workshop, several technological developments were discussed that are currently gaining in importance:

Plasma as an alternative to classic cleaning processes

Atmospheric pressure plasma is increasingly seen as a chemical-free alternative to wet chemical cleaning processes.

Decontamination, Plasma-Activated Water (PAW) and Medical Technology

Another focus was on decontamination processes with plasma as well as applications with plasma-activated water (PAW). These topics met with great interest.

Importance of the akadpWorkshop for relyon plasma

The ak- adp workshop confirmed its role as an important exchange platform for atmospheric pressure plasma in industry. For relyon plasma, the event delivered:

  • practical insights into industrial challenges
  • valuable impulses for future applications and system requirements

The structured dialogue with users and experts creates the basis for the further development of industrial plasma technologies in line with market demand, to which relyon plasma contributes its technological expertise.
